Perhaps they truly wished to bring back Solus zos Galvus, the beloved founding father... But mostly I believe they were simply experimenting, getting the hang of cloning technology once used by the Allagan empire.

I suspect my dear grandson simply picked my discarded form to clone as a twisted joke, really.

[ This kinda stuff isn't that weird to him - he and Snake fought old American presidents and Snake himself was cloned from a legendary war hero - but he still liked to not be left in the dark on something that big. ]

Only if you have a particular desire. We are not, after all, in Garlemald.

And I did already let Solus "die" some years ago. I continue to to take his form now for its familiarity and convenience.

[ Hal actually does, but not in casual conversation - he enjoyed calling James "Professor" when they were together being naughty. He liked that submission and roleplay. Maybe one day, Ardyn would get him to beg for more science funding from the Imperial Chancellor. Maybe not. It was hard to be honest about things he liked and fantasized about.

Besides, he's just a hole for Chroma generation. A warm body. That's what he decided for himself months ago, here. It's why when a partner is gentle and wanting him to feel good and appreciated, that he's surprised. ]

Hm, I would prefer Emet-Selch for everyday conversation, as you know me for what I am rather than the parts I have played.

Many thousands of years more, yes.

We three who remained Unsundered took up the task of trying to regain that which was lost. We were able to bring fragments of those souls who had aided in Zodiark's summoning to our side and remind them of who they were meant to be.

Together, we discovered how the Shards could be reunited with the Source and, well, how not to do it. As we rejoin Shard and Source, we come ever closer to all becoming whole again, including Zodiark. Once He is reawakened, then together with His power we will be able to put all to right again.

Thus far, seven Rejoinings have been completed. We were on the very precipice of an eighth but, alas, certain... complications arose.

I feel like I'm missing some context here. Could you define these words?

Ah. The Source is the remnant of our original star, from which the thirteen Shards were broken off when Hydaelyn struck down Zodiark. A Rejoining occurs when we join a Shard back to the Source.

Do you follow so far?

So they're like... what, magic meteors?

More similar to entire worlds, though they are but pale reflections of the world as it was. They are located on another plane of existence, rather than being simply physically removed from the Source.

There is nothing of any consequence on them.

Well, there is nothing there but fragments. Whatever is left of life when you divide it up fourteen times.

[ He thinks of Cehd'ra, and Nero. Cehd'ra's a good man. Same world, if the Garlean thing checked out - Nero, too. ]

I don't think my friends from your world are lesser.

I suppose you wouldn't, having never seen people as they are meant to be... And the ones you have met here are most likely from the Source, which I must remind you has been through seven Rejoinings. They are, at best, half of what they should be.

They seem like whole entire people to me. So what am I to you, then?

Hm, yes, a worthy question. You are not like my kind. That I cannot and will not deny. But nor are you from my world. As such, you should not be fragmented...

[He closed his eyes for a moment, contemplating.]

What you are to me is the one who greeted me and took my by the hand just after my arrival. Who indulged my curiosity about lunar cycles. Who has come to hear my story and brought me a rather nice coffee... A companion, I suppose.
